A No-Kill Shelter
The Marion County Humane Society is so excited about our
new partnership with the Vet Tech program from the Pierpont
Community & Technical College.  Our board member, Glenda
Julian spearheaded this idea and contacted Anna Romano,
Veterinary Technology Program Director.  Anna was happy to
help!  Here's what Glenda has to say about the program  "We
are unrolling a volunteer program with the 2 year students
enrolled in the vet tech program.   In conjunction with our
Interim Manager, Fran Warner, the volunteer program will
help with the daily duties at the shelter and create more
workers to get some things done that the staff would never
have time to do.  We are taking one step at a time and
building a volunteer program that will complement the needs
of the shelter."
June 2009. Our heads are spinning with all the activity happening around here!  Take a look at what we're doing!

Wal-Mart has been incredibly generous with their sidewalk - allowing us to host off-site adoption days there.  We've found
some great forever homes for our animals, and we've made some fantastic new friends who visited during these events!
This weekend, Purina hosted us at another Wal-Mart adoption day!  They gave away prizes, and we had an all-around
great day!

The word is out that we've linked up with the Vet-
Tech program at Pierpont Community and Technical College.  Youth groups are inviting us to speak at their meetings and
events, and some groups are visiting the shelter to volunteer and to learn more about our animals and our programs!  We
love having kids around!

We had a fun couple of days at the Riverfest in Worthington Park.  Nancy Riggs hosted our first pet pageant, and many
volunteers helped us transport animals and escort them on stage!

Members and volunteers are busy preparing for our upcoming Yard Sale!  We're hoping this fundraiser will pump some
always-needed funds into our organization - momentum is strong and these funds will be put to good use in helping all the
homeless animals we can!

Just to complicate things a little more - we're sprucing up the shelter with new room arrangements, fresh paint and new
tile!! Eric Mancerella of Pittsburgh Paint donated supplies, and Rocky Manchin of Wholesale Carpet donated tiles.  Lots of
folks donated their time and hard labor!  Thanks to all our wonderful volunteers!

Wine Tasting Success

The Marion County Humane Society held our first Wine Tasting
event at Marie's on Mary Lou Retton Drive.  Our friends and
supporters spent some much-deserved downtime wi th us -
relaxing, trying some new wines, and making new friends.  Our
silent auction was great fun and provided additional funds for the
animals!  Thanks so much to all who helped and to all who
attended!  A special thanks to Cathy Vanata for organizing this
event.
